VANDUSEN BOTANICAL GARDEN
CANADA
VanDusen Botanical Garden is located in the heart of Vancouver, Canada with over 8.000 plant species and varieties from around the world. Formerly the Shaughnessy Golf Course, the land was redeveloped into a 55-acre botanical garden that opened in 1975. The garden is jointly operated by the City of Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association
The Garden’s Visitor Centre was named Most Sustainable Building of the Year in 2014. Shaped like an orchid when viewed from above, its organic lines echo the way nature and conservation have been considered at every turn. Featuring advanced technology, a green roof, and beautiful orchid-inspired design, the building achieved LEED Platinum status. The Visitor Centre uses renewable sources on-site such as solar photovoltaics, and filtered rainwater for the building’s greywater requirements. The design team of architect Perkins + Will and landscape architect Cornelia Hahn Oberlander developed the master plan for the facility.
Visit the garden to spot and photograph local wildlife, find your way through an Elizabethan hedge maze, unwind in a serene setting of vibrant plant life, or browse the garden-themed gift shop. Enjoy a breathtaking dining experience on the patios of Shaughnessy Restaurant and Truffles Café that overlook the garden.
