Domaine de Chaumont sur Loire

Overlooking the river and surrounded by greenery, the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire is at the heart of the cultural landscape of the Loire Valley, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Since 2008, Chaumont-sur-Loire’s Centre for Arts and Nature has been a unique place for cultural exchange, especially in the fields of art and garden design. This unique location has a triple identity – heritage, art and gardens – offering visitors an all-round cultural experience. The Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire is an unusual place, a sort of “artistic utopia” that is both multi-disciplinary and multi-sensory. Its challenging, yet inclusive programme attracts a variety of audiences from all countries and generations, both experts and amateurs together.
Open 363 days of the year, it is a lively place all year round and is constantly evolving. The year revolves around three major events: the Art Season and the International Garden Festival in spring and summer, and the Chaumont-Photo-sur-Loire photography exhibitions that take place in the autumn and winter. Between these highlights of the year, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy both the beauty of the place and exceptional creative experiences.

Works of art come and go. With nearly 15 guest artists and sculptors featured by its Art Season and 30 temporary gardens designed for the international Garden Festival, the Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire continues to write its own long story history throgh a process of yearly renewal. Arriving from all over the world, landscapers of the International Garden Festival come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including the worlds of horticulture, architecture, design, decoration, biology, botany and ecology. They take us by surprise by using unexpected materials. They propose innovative drainage systems, audacious water purification solutions and highly original irrigation methods. Together, these extraordinarily inventive creations immerse us in the world of the ideal garden, whose bewitching colours go from every shade of blue to the deepest of reds: a paradisea live with fragrances, insects and birds, a garden of contemplation, full of surprises, a garden of wonderment, abounding in fruits, flowers and fountains, a place of forgetfulness, outside time and space, a place of countless encounters, exchanges and shared moments.
