Cruden Farm

Australia
Cruden Farm is the beloved former home of Dame Elisabeth Murdoch. More than eighty years in the making and at the heart of a working farm, Cruden Farm’s garden is a delicate piece of country set amid dense suburbia that feels like it will endure forever.

Strong, healthy trees of all ages and hues form the property’s backbone and character. Grass adds texture with emerald lawns, rough-cut swathes, paddocks bleached in the sun. Water in lakes and pools gives depth, dimension and sparkle. Exuberant flowering shrubs and perennials produce months of vibrant colour, before the bare-boned delicacy of winter.

In 2012 the property was gifted by Dame Elisabeth Murdoch for people to enjoy as a place of public recreation, featuring wondrous manicured gardens and peaceful walking areas. The sights and scents at Cruden Farm alter dramatically throughout the seasons and there are many rare and old plants.

Cruden Farm is located less than an hour from Melbourne and welcomes visitors for garden wanders Monday – Friday and on the third Sunday of every month (excluding public holidays).
