Butchart Gardens
Canada
Located in Brentwood Bay BC, The Butchart Gardens, has been enthralling visitors for over 115 years with its stunning 22ha (55acres) of floral display gardens. Jennie and Robert Pim Butchart began The Gardens in the early 1900’s, and today it is still privately owned and operated, now by their great granddaughter.
The Gardens is recognized as one of the Top 10 Gardens of the World. Open every day of the year, it attracts over a million visitors from around the world. With several major gardens, including the Sunken Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, Mediterranean Garden, the Concert Lawn, and the Ross Fountain, there is something to enjoy in every season.
In 2004, The Butchart Gardens celebrated its 100th anniversary, and received designation as a National Historic Site of Canada.
Spectacular spring is a show of unparalleled beauty. Named World Tulip Garden of the Year in 2017, spring showcases hundreds of thousands of bulbs in bloom, along with a host of flowering trees and shrubs.
Summer is breathtaking with floral splendor greeting you at every turn. Throughout the beds in the Sunken Garden, annuals take center stage while the Rose Garden features over 250 varieties of roses, providing an abundance of colour and fragrance.
In autumn, as warm days transition to crisp nights, the perennial parade of red, russet and golden maples make their mark. It’s a wonderful time to enjoy the tranquility of the Japanese Garden before winter arrives.
The Magic of Christmas, December 1 – January 6, is a season all its own, with a dazzling display of lights, the Twelve Days of Christmas installation tucked throughout the grounds and an outdoor ice rink.
Dining options include the Dining Room Restaurant, located in the former Butchart residence, the Blue Poppy Restaurant, Annabelle’s Café, the Coffee Shop, as well as seasonal options.
Year–round, visitors of all ages can ride the Rose Carousel with its hand-carved animals and chariots. No visit is complete without a stop in the Seed & Gift Store featuring seeds, jewelry, teas, giftware and many items exclusive to The Gardens.
